Community Learning School

  • In 2014 QIRT became a part of the New York City Community Learning Schools Initiative (CLS), led by the United Federation of Teachers. Our goal is to improve student achievement by meeting the health, safety and social service needs of our students, parents and community. We work to do this by facilitating partnerships between this campus, non-profit organizations, local businesses and government agencies in an effort to make QIRT a resource for the Far Rockaway community.

Our school currently offers several afterschool programs to our students in visual arts and digital recording, as well as programs that focus on college and career readiness for the entire student body. Not only does this initiative provide enrichment for our students, but it has allowed us to create an environment for growing adult education opportunities as well. QIRT also offers free adult Zumba and GED classes to the community, and we plan to add ESL classes this year as well.

Mr. Rasahn Staley our Community Learning School Coordinator has introduced these and many other programs to our school. He invites you to join the Community Learning Advisory Board Meeting held the third Tuesday of every month at 1 pm. It is our goal to not only empower our students, but their families and this community as well and you play a key role in this initiative. We need and welcome your support and cooperation.
